Fire Rated Door Control Hardware

Let's remember that fire rated doors must have a closer on them and that any stops must not have a hold open feature. Hinges are to be of steel construction and not bronze to stand up to the heat of a fire. Exit devices are not permitted to have a dogging feature, this is an easy open function. We don't want a hold open or easy open function on a fire rated door. There should be a positive latching function on a fire rated door that is driven closed by a closer, however, manual flush bolts are not permitted.
On double doors, a vertical astragal of stainless steel completes the metal barrier. A coordinator insures the proper closing sequence. Factory rated perimeter gaskets and sweeps provide smoke control.

  2. There are many ways that fire can start. Another cause is when the appliances used will overheat and short circuit. The presence of fire rated doors would lessen the danger of a quick fire spreading. Anything that can prevent it spreading too rapidly would be thanked by people inside a burning structure. There were many times in the past, according to the recollection of fire survivors, when they had been spared from imminent death by fire doors. Thus, it is not only required for buildings but also in homes where there is an adjacent garage. Fire usually starts in garages and it is vital for a residential structure to separate the garage area through a door that can withstand burning.
